Damaged Toe Nails

Damaged toe nails can get us down. Knock our confidence, and encourage us never display our feet, although it is usually more obvious to us than it is to others. Some of us out there will hide away our feet because we have been a victim of suffering with and living with such deformities. Generally an ugly toe nail can be treated and restored to its former appearance but for some the damage can be permanent and the nail will continue to grow abnormal forever.

Deformities will usually occur in feet when -
  • We incur fungal infections.
  • We have worn shoes for years that cripple us (definitely a woman thing) that may have been too small, constant wear of stiletto's.
  • Athletic types who do a lot of running / football
  • In growing toe nails - infections or removal
  • An object being accidentally dropped upon toes
  • Having our toes trod on accidentally
  • Health conditions
  • Illness

The most common cause for a damaged toe nail is a fungal infection. Fungal toe nail infections are extremely common. They are also very difficult to treat. Fungal infections of toenails, hair & skin are different from other types of superficial infections that people get because the fungi are growing on dead tissue. Fingernails, toenails, hair and the outer layers of skin are not composed of living cells - they have no nerve endings, no blood supply and no cellular immunity to invading microorganisms. Fungi live on them, breaking down keratin, a protein for nutrients. Your GP should be able to prescribe you medication to help clear up toe nail infections.

More often than not toe nails today that have ….
  • Barely grown back
  • Have grown back in layers
  • Have ridges
  • Are claw like
  • Imperfected surfaces
  • Have broken very low in nail bed
….can be sorted!

I am a victim of having both my big toe nails removed when I was 15 because I constantly suffered with in growing toe nails. I suffered for 3 years before I went to have the problem sorted out and always envied friends who wore pretty open toed shoes and sandals in the summer months. I was someone who would wish away summer just to excuse the embarrassment of being in closed shoes or boots in the height of our summers. On finally having an operation to remove both my toes nails I was devastated when I was told that neither nails would grow back. Months and months on my nails did appear to grow but in several layers. I could get away with painting them but you could see the imperfections highlighted more so with the varnish applied. It wasn't until I became a nail technician that I was aware of the help that could sort this problem. My problem was a simple one. It was corrected just by using a gel to coat the surface of my nails. Because the gel is a self leveling product it creates a level to hide the imperfections leaving a smooth shiny surface. A great solution for ridged nail plates too. Now when I paint my nails you wouldn't know I have that imperfection. An infill needs to be carried out on my toes every 6-8 weeks the same as you would do when dealing with regular maintenance on nail extensions - the nails grows and a gap appears between the cuticle and product - on an infill, the gel is buffed down slightly and a new coat is applied. All readily prepared for painting again.

So being a victim of horrid toe nails I wanted to specialise in helping others with imperfections/deformities also. Where as gel is great for dealing with slight imperfections like myself, or ridges, Acrylic is like the godfather to rebuilding new nails.

In most cases, a damaged nail plate will have a structure to it. It can be half grown, holey, claw like etc but generally if there is a part foundation a nail form - which is a sticky piece of paper that is used for sculpting nails, can be put around the nail plate and built up upon in layers before being filed into a definite nail shape. The making of this this service is seeing your nails painted professionally after and you have a 'normal' set of fabulous looking toe nails. This will boost your confidence immensely, I can assure you.

Sculpting of toe nails with acrylic can -
  • Enhance the beauty of your feet
  • Create a whole new nail plate
  • Hide imperfections / deformities
  • Extend lengths of broken nails
  • Boost your moral and confidence.
